Pricing and Booking Questions

How is a blocked drain job priced?

Every job starts with finding the cause, then you get a fixed upfront price in writing before any work begins. There is no hourly rate guesswork, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay.

Can you attend on the same day I call?

We can usually be there the same day, especially for calls that come in during the morning. It depends on the day's bookings, so ring early and we will fit your drain in where we can.

What should I have ready when I call?

Tell us which fixtures are slow, gurgling or overflowing, and when it started. Mention anything you have noticed, like gullies backing up after rain, because it helps the plumber arrive with the right approach.

How do I pay for the work?

You pay by card or EFTPOS on the day the work is done, once the drain has been tested and is running freely. There is no invoice to chase later.

Do you cover suburbs beyond Grange?

Yes. The team works through Stafford, Gordon Park, Lutwyche, Windsor and Wilston on the same regular rounds, so a neighbour's blocked drain gets the same service as yours.

What if the blockage is in the street main?

The Urban Utilities main under the street is the authority's asset, not yours. If the camera shows the trouble sits beyond your boundary, we tell you straight so you contact the right party.

Local Drain Questions

Why do drains block more often in older Grange houses?

Houses from the 1903 Grange Estate era and the interwar build often sit on vitrified earthenware pipe. Those cemented joints weather over the decades, and a shifted socket catches paper, grease and fine roots.

Does Kedron Brook flooding affect household drains?

The brook's mapped flood extent takes in Gilbert Road Park and parts of Emerson Park and Grange Forest Park, while most streets sit outside the 1974 and 2011 river flood footprints. Saturated ground can still slow nearby drains.

Does storm season change when I should book a drain clear?

It can. Rain on the Grange Heights ridge runs off fast toward Kedron Brook, and a sluggish stormwater line that copes in dry weather can overflow during a summer burst. Booking before the season beats mopping up after it.

Are tree roots a common cause of blockages here?

Very common. The conservation-zoned bushland along Kedron Brook and the mature gardens in the older streets push fine roots into the joints of nearby earthenware house lines, and those roots thicken year after year.

Which pipes am I responsible for?

The house drains from your fixtures out to the boundary are yours to keep clear, while the street main belongs to Urban Utilities. We confirm which side of that line the problem sits on before quoting.

Do newer homes in the area have the same drain problems?

Usually not. Around 103 dwellings were approved across the wider area over five years, and newer builds run on modern PVC with sealed joints. Their troubles tend to be grease, silt or a crushed section rather than weathered clay.
